O CÉU EM NOSSA CASA
HONESTY, WONDER AND REALISM
THE CHILDREN'S ROOM
The treasure in the look of a child's eyes
Being born is an adventure far greater than marriage. The arrival of a baby in all households, even in the saddest ones, brings new life to parents, grandparents, uncles and brothers, although not in the same way for all.
The day the newborn baby comes home, he takes possession of his parent’s house without uttering a word, he enters to stay, claiming all rights. He must immediately be given a comfortable place in which to begin this new adventure of living. His first boat will be his crib, a vessel like Noah´s Ark. Thus, the children´s room will transform throughout the years and become the helm of the ship that will change the life of the family.
When we first enter a family with our certificate of birth, we enter an extraordinary unpredictable world, a world with its own strange laws, a world which we, definitely, did not create. In other words, when we become part of a family, we become part of a fable, as Chesterton well said.
Parents learn a great deal with the coming of a newborn baby because every infant child transmits innocent wisdom that can change the life of the entire family, if they are attentive and willing, and have the desire to learn.
During these days of the global pandemic, a journalist has pointed out how, without a previous agreement, many of the world´s most renowned photographers are taking pictures of children looking out from their windows, children playing at home, children sleeping peacefully. As if the look in a child´s eyes over a strange world, over a mysterious reality, has become something to treasure.
Chesterton used to say that in every child there is a whole new universe within which there is so much to learn that we need to make every effort to recover the candor and the wonder of a child, the realism and the objectivity of their innocence. We need to try to change our customs, to see all things as new.
By carefully observing children, we will understand that they take nothing for granted, so, they see the world with eyes of amazement because everything is a miracle. Children do not have projects, which is why they are at peace and do not worry like adults. We can learn so much about life if we become like children. They are the highest and most sacred essence of being human.
The poet, Jesus Montiel, wrote that for a child the world is a novel, each face a sculpture, his mother’s voice a symphony.
